Obninsk, Kaluga region is widely known that it was built by the world's first nuclear power plant. Today is the first science city Obninsk Russia and implements an innovative concept development, focused on the use of scientific and technical potential of INPE, Research Institute of the city, as well as business park Obninsk.
INPE NRNU MEPhI was established in 1953 as the evening department MEPI. In 2009, INPE has officially received the status of a separate structural unit NRNU "MEPI", which gave new impetus to the development of educational and scientific activities on the basis of the innovation component.
Obninsk Institute of Atomic Energy is the only one in Russia and CIS specialized institution of higher education, provides training in high technology enterprises and organizations of nuclear energy, science and technology. INPE has a license from the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation to conduct educational activities in secondary, tertiary, postgraduate and further education.
In INPE implemented the concept of multi-level training of specialists with higher education. Today INPE trains engineers in 13 majors, bachelor's in three areas, master's and PhD students in 12 specialties. Training sessions in IATE are 343 teachers, 53 doctors, 150 candidates, including 10 full members of Russian and international academies. As a high school science city INPE has an opportunity to use a unique experimental base a dozen research institutions with the most modern equipment, to bring to the educational process leading specialists of research institutes. INPE has branches in several departments of research institutes, as well as in the Smolensk and Novovoronezh UTC.
The University has teaching and laboratory buildings, an area of 23 thousand m2, sufficient for the conduct of the educational process and scientific research. Laboratories are equipped with modern devices, facilities, operating model, by means of computer technology, there is a network display classes with Internet access. The University has 4 well-appointed residences and a hotel for students FPC. A 4-day form of faculties at INPE trained more than 2,7 thousand students and faculty in the evening - about 250 people at the correspondence department - about 1000 people.
The structure of INPE 9 faculties: physical energy, science, cybernetics, and socio-economic, medical, evening, distance education, prevocational training, advanced training and retraining of specialists in the 21 and 7 special educational departments.
Among the graduates of INPE's leading specialists of the largest enterprises of the Kaluga region, the senior staff of domestic and foreign nuclear power plants, management and operational personnel departments of the state corporation Rosatom and Rosenergoatom, managers of Russian and foreign banks and private companies, the engineers of the American space agency NASA, financial analysts and business consultants of the largest consulting companies in Russia. A system promoting employment of students and employment of graduates in the largest Russian and Western companies to ensure high wages and career growth. Signed long-term cooperation agreements with companies Samsung, LG Electronics Rus, SUE Mose NPO Radon, the State Corporation for Atomic Energy, Rosatom and Rosenergoatom. In the past five years, more than 95% of graduates found work in the specialty, which indicates the highest level of theoretical and practical training for work in various industries.

Actively developing innovative activity IATE: Student created a business incubator in 2007, is open only in the Kaluga Region Local Network Academy CISCO, training which is conducted with the use of IT-technology world level. Together with the IPPE created REC "Atomic Energy". From 2008 on the basis of INPE carries the International Centre for the conservation and transfer of nuclear knowledge.
Students INPE actively involved in scientific work, regularly presenting papers at scientific sessions NRNU MEPI and other universities in Russia, as well as city, regional and all-Russian conferences, such as: "Aurora", "Lomonosov's readings", etc.
INPE has established effective partnerships with scientific and educational organizations in the U.S., Japan, China, France, the Netherlands, Germany, Italy, Czech Republic, USA, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Lithuania and Finland.
